Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

Four ingredients. Endless complexity. If you have sake questions, you're not alone. We've answered the most common ones below. Don't see yours? Send us a message.

What is sake?

Sake is brewed from rice, water, yeast, and koji mold. You've probably heard it called "Japanese rice wine," and while that's a common shorthand, sake is really its own thing entirely. The brewing process, the flavor, the experience. There’s nothing else quite like it.

Is Kubota gluten-free?

Yes, it is. No wheat, no barley, no gluten. With only four ingredients — rice, water, yeast, and koji mold — Kubota sake is naturally gluten-free.

Is Kubota vegan?

Yes. All Kubota sakes are vegan and contain no animal-derived ingredients.

How should I serve Kubota?

Cold is a good place to start, especially with our Junmai Daiginjo. Some styles hold up beautifully at room temperature. A few open up nicely when gently warmed. Check the product page, pour it however you like, and feel free to try something new.

How long does sake last after opening?

If you keep it refrigerated, you’ve got seven to ten days to enjoy it at peak flavor and quality.

What foods pair well with Kubota?

Sushi, seafood, grilled meats, cheese. Honestly, almost anything you want. Kubota sakes have a clean finish that goes well with whatever’s on the table.
